Can I Receive Payouts on Pennygood? Supported Countries Explained

The short answer: if you have a bank account in one of 46+ supported countries, yes — you can receive payouts from supporters anywhere in the world.

Here's everything you need to know.

---

How payouts work

Pennygood processes all payments through Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment platforms. When a supporter backs you, the money hits Pennygood's platform account. Once your balance reaches $50, it's automatically transferred to your connected bank account — in your local currency.

Pennygood dashboard Payouts tab showing balance: $0 available, $18 pending, $12.96 support this month, $11.92 net after 8% fee, with Stripe bank account connected.
Your Payouts dashboard — track balance, pending funds, and connect Stripe.

Your supporters can be from anywhere in the world. A supporter in Russia, Argentina, Japan, or anywhere else can back you with their card. What matters for receiving payouts is your location — where your bank account is.

My country isn't on the list — what now?

We know this is frustrating. Countries like Argentina, Russia, China, Turkey, and most of Central Asia are not currently supported by Stripe for receiving payouts. This is a Stripe limitation, not a Pennygood policy — and it affects a lot of good people we'd genuinely love to support.

Here's what we're doing about it:

Waitlist. If your country isn't supported yet, join our waitlist. As Stripe expands (and they are expanding — 12 new countries were added in early 2026 alone), we'll reach out as soon as your country becomes available.

Alternative payout rails. We're actively evaluating Wise and PayPal as secondary payout options for unsupported countries. No timeline yet, but it's on the roadmap.

Your supporters can still back you. Even if payouts to your country aren't available yet, your page can be live, your story can be in the Feed, and your community can show support. Earnings will hold in your account until your country becomes supported or an alternative becomes available.

---

Supporters can be from anywhere

This is worth repeating: there are no restrictions on where your supporters come from.

Stripe accepts cards from 195+ countries. A supporter in Russia, China, Argentina, Iran — anywhere — can chip in $3/month. The supported-country requirement applies only to the recipient (you), not the person sending support.

So even if you're waiting on your country for payouts, your page can already be building a community of backers.

What currency will I receive?

Payouts are made in your local currency. Stripe handles the conversion automatically:

  • A volunteer in Spain receives euros
  • A volunteer in Australia receives AUD
  • A volunteer in Mexico receives pesos

There's a small currency conversion fee (typically 1%) built into Stripe's processing costs. This is already factored into the amounts shown in your Pennygood dashboard — no hidden surprises.

---

Tax and reporting

Pennygood doesn't provide tax advice, but here's what you need to know:

US-based volunteers: Stripe may issue you a 1099-K if your annual earnings exceed the IRS reporting threshold. This is standard for any platform processing payments in the US.

Non-US volunteers: You're responsible for reporting income in your country according to local tax law. Stripe may request a W-8BEN form to confirm your non-US status.

Earnings through Pennygood — including referral commissions — are taxable income in most jurisdictions. When in doubt, talk to a local accountant.

Setting up payouts

When you create your Pennygood page, you'll be prompted to connect your bank account through Stripe's secure onboarding flow. The process takes about 10 minutes and requires:

  • Your full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Bank account details (IBAN for Europe, routing/account number for US, etc.)
  • A government-issued ID (passport or national ID)

This is a legal requirement for Stripe to verify your identity and comply with anti-money-laundering regulations. Pennygood never sees or stores your banking credentials — everything goes directly to Stripe.
